Bronx, NY: These days Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. must be turning in his grave as we see Afro-American elected officials such as Governor David Patterson supporting the Israeli bombardment of Gaza. Dr. King was a peacemaker, a negotiator, a man who believed in non-violence and respect for Human Rights. Watching Afro-Americans elected officials pander to the conservative Israeli lobby is tragic and beyond comprehension. How does one justify such disproportionate violence? How do you as an Afro-American, who has been victimized by discrimination, turn around and support this massive attack against another people of color?
How many Black and Latino US Congress Representatives voted in support of the Resolution backing the actions of Israel in Gaza?
Perhaps Governor David Patterson and these representatives should spend the Martin Luther King Holiday listening to one of his last speeches “Why I Oppose the War in Vietnam.”
Blessed are the Peacemakers

Speaking of supporting the Israeli savage attack on Gaza, has Mayor Mike ever met a war he didn’t support? He supported the Iraq war even after the weapons of mass destruction failed to appear. He supported the war in Afghanistan and now is in favor of the Israeli invasion of Gaza. If Bloomberg had been elected President we would probably have been preparing for an additional war with Iran.
This is the man some New Yorkers were pushing for president of the U. S.
We have recently heard rumors that Mayor Mike will be supporting City councilmember Joel Rivera for Bronx Borough President. This apparently was the payback for Rivera getting the Bronx City Council delegation to overwhelmingly vote in favor of extending term limits for mayor Mike.
Rivera is also expected to get the Real Estate sector’s full support. He has received significant contributions from the Landlord lobby. He previously unsuccessfully tried to water down the Tenant harassment Bill (designed to protect tenants from Landlord Harassment). The Bill was subsequently passed by the City Council. Rivera will be facing Ruben Diaz Jr.
Political pundits are asking what is holding up Adolfo Carrión’s appointment to Obama’s cabinet as Director of Urban Policy. Some suspect that Carrión’s ties to the shady and shaky transactions of Former Bronx Democratic leader José Rivera is causing the problem. Carrión, the “son” of two of the Bronx biggest wheeler dealers (José Rivera and Roberto Ramirez) now finds himself temporary shut out.
Guilt by Association?
Where are the voices of Bronx Borough President Carrión and the Bronx Democratic Machine (Rainbow rebels) while the Yankees try to get more tax-exempt bonds from the City/State? While they are telling us we face Education and Health care cutbacks, library closing-increased transit-fare and many more sacrifices-the billion dollar Yankees get a tax break.
Where are your voices?
